On Friday and Saturday nights, April 21 and 22 respectively, at 8 pm, Bang on a Can All Stars and Westminster Choir will perform Anthracite Fields at Roebling Wire Works in Trenton.
Anthracite Fields is an oratorio for choir and chamber ensemble by the American composer Julia Wolfe and will be performed as a multi-media presentation at Roebling Wire Works in Trenton, site of the annual Art All Night Arts Festival.
Anthracite Fields runs approximately an hour and combines elements of folk and classical music. Its libretto contains various oral histories, speeches, interviews, advertisements, and other texts from the history of the region.
Anthracite Fields has been described by Los Angeles Times music critic Mark Swed as “an unforgettably haunting, harrowing evocation of the plight of Pennsylvania’s coal miners, incorporating many musical styles and effectively shadowy visuals.”
To purchase a combined performance ticket (Saturday night only) with round-trip bus transportation from Westminster Choir College to Trenton for $25, contact the Westminster Conservatory of Music.
